Magnetic markings
If the binary stuff is too much for you I have alternatives!
Print out some suitable markings on an overhead transparency, stick on some steel paper, and then use the magnetic material on the bases to keep them fixed on.
The only problem I have found with this method is that the labels tend to slide off during the game.
Magnetic markings fitted to a squad of GHQ German infantry (1st platoon, 1st company label erroneously fitted ot 2nd platoon, 1st company!) Note: I'd now recommend using a piece of steel paper the same size as the base - the smaller size show above doesn't grip well enough.
