Basse - orders
Major Smith's plan
1 Platoon will pin any Germans on the W of Basse.
3 Platoon will pin any Germans to the E.
Then 2 Platoon will attack Basse from the S.
Major Smith's orders to Lieut. Bloomfield, 1 Platoon
1 Platoon attack
Your job is to pin any enemy in the vicinity of the W of Basse, preventing them from supporting Basse, or attacking 2 Platoon's left flank when it attacks Basse from the S.
At 08:00 1 Platoon will advance through the W part of Vacognes wood toward the W edge of Basse.
It will take Farm Able and then Ruin Charlie.
The HMG teams will be attached to you and should take up fire positions in Ruin Charlie, covering Basse.
When you see a green flare you will engage Basse from the W in support of 2 Platoon who will be advancing from the S of Basse.
If enemy opposition in Basse is light, advance into the W edge and link up with 2 Platoon.
Take up positions in Ruin Charlie and Basse (if occupied) to repel enemy counterattacks.
Major Smith's orders to Lieut. Woolfrey, 3 Platoon.
3 Platoon attack
3 Platoon will prevent any enemy to the E of Basse from supporting Basse, or threatening 2 Platoon’s right flank when it assaults Basse from the S.
At 08:00 3 Platoon will advance through the E part of Vacognes wood and occupy Farm Baker and it’s surrounding area.
From Farm Baker pin down and, if possible, eliminate any enemy in the vicinity of House Fox.
When you see a green flare, you will attack the E side of Basse and link up with 2 Platoon.
Occupy the E end of Basse to repel enemy counterattacks.
Major Smith's orders to Lieut. Tampkins, 2 Platoon
2 Platoon attack
2 Platoon will assault Basse from the S.
At 08:00 2 Platoon will advance N towards Basse and take Houses Easy and Dog.
Hold these positions.
A green flare will indicate you are to attack and take Basse from the S.
You will then take up positions in Basse to repel enemy counterattacks.
You will be supported by the two Churchill tanks, and be accompanied by the mortar FO, Sergeant Pickard.
