Germans advance! 6 mm scale Pz. IV and infantry squad (GHQ)

Overview

These pages detail my interests in wargaming and military modelling.

Where I live

I live in Warminster, England, a town on the SW edge of Salisbury Plain. If you live near, please contact me and we'll see about getting together for some wargaming!

How I got interested in wargames

I've been interested in wargames since I first read an article about wargaming in, I think, the Eagle annual when I was about eight. I then rapidly moved on to "Charge! or how to play wargames" by Brig. Peter Young.

During my teenage years I mainly played WWII games using Paragon's skirmish rules and Airfix figures, or Napoleonic games with WRG rules and, again, Airfix figures, although gladiators were a favourite at school. I was also keen on air wargames using 1/72 scale WWII aircraft - clear the furniture, here come the aircraft!

I lived in Wasington DC for three years and was fortunate to play at Roy's Hobbies, a hobby shop that hosted wargames once a week. The group there played a wide variety of wargames, and were all history buffs, with a lot of knowledge in wargaming too. My favourites games there were table-top versions of the board game "Air Superiority".

For the next ten years I mainly played computer games such as Harpoon and TacOps, but rarely.

Why I am still interested in wargames

So why am I back into wargaming and going to the effort of creating these pages?

Several reasons:
  • I decided to get into wargames again and I found the web to be an invaluable source of information. So I should play my part by creating a few pages.

  • I found a local group of friendly gamers.

  • I watched "Saving Private Ryan" and more importantly "Band of Brothers", and realised how interested I was in the period.

  • I heard about Crossfire. It sounded like the rules I now wanted: simple, fast, realistic.

  • I now have the money to blow on really nice figures!

Welcome!

I hope you enjoy these pages. Please let me know what you think about them (see contact page).

Happy wargaming and modelling!
